Moonwalk in the desert region of Arizona from October 4-9
Many features in the Arizona desert correspond to the lunar atmosphere
NASA selected two astronauts Drew Feustel and Xena Cardman for the mission
Washington, Astronauts have started preparing for NASA’s Artemis Moon mission. As part of the mission, the astronauts will walk in the South Pole region of the Moon where no human has ever visited before. Before the astronauts go directly to the southern region of the Moon, NASA is going to practice it in a simulated lunar environment. This mission will be done from October 4-9 in the remote rocky and desert area of SP Crater near Arizona. According to NASA, the Arizona desert has many features that are consistent with the lunar atmosphere.
four moonwalks
Four moonwalks have been scheduled in the first phase of the mission which will be repeated in the dark of night. NASA believes that the situation at night will be exactly like the South Pole region of the Moon where less light is seen. For all four moonwalks, NASA has selected two astronauts Drew Feustel and Xena Cardman. Both the passengers will walk in a circle of about one mile wearing a mockup spacesuit system. During this time they will use a variety of moonwalking tools and techniques to collect samples, including raking, hammering and coring.
At the same time, to analyze the moonwalk, the flight control team will monitor from the Mission Control Center at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and a science team will also do a real-time analysis of the effects of the moonwalk. The results from this simulated mission will be discussed in depth by the science team, flight control team, crew members and moon experts. Also, NASA will apply the results of these records in the plan made for the Artemis mission.
