Washington. The US successfully test-fired a hypersonic weapon on Wednesday. The US Navy has successfully tested a rocket of hypersonic weapons at the Wallops Flight Test Facility in Virginia. The US Navy said that it was a joint program of the US Army and Navy. This was the second test under a program focused on developing sea- and land-based hypersonic capabilities. The first test was conducted in October 2021.

According to CNN, a sounding rocket was fired from the launchpad in this test. Various experiments were carried out to collect data and collect information about electronics with high temperature resistant materials. Vice Admiral Johnny Wolfe, Director of Strategic Systems Programs, said today’s launch was a “very well” successful launch. He further said that ‘Actually we have completed our work. We collected all the data we wanted to collect.

Rocket launch on Thursday also
The US Navy said a second rocket is scheduled for launch on Thursday. It will carry out an additional 13 experiments designed to develop hypersonic weapons. The data collected from these tests will help in the development of the Navy’s conventional hypersonic systems and the Army’s Long Range Hypersonic Weapon. The Navy said that both the programs will use the common hypersonic glide body.

The Pentagon has made the development of hypersonic weapons one of its top priorities after China’s successful hypersonic launch last year. Here Russia has started using hypersonic missiles in Ukraine. It is known that a hypersonic weapon is a weapon operating at a speed of 5 times the speed of sound. That is, hypersonic weapons fly in the air at a speed of 6115 kilometers per hour. If this weapon flies at a speed of 1220 kilometers per hour above the sea, then it becomes difficult to attack.
