A trilateral meeting of India-UAE-French foreign ministers in New York focused on enhancing partnership in the field of defense and security, with special focus on Rafale fighter jets, global issues, innovation and people-to-people relations. The Rafale fighter jet is one thing in common in this tripartite strategic partnership. Because both India and UAE have bought Rafale fighter jets from France. The three countries are keen to set up a tripartite Rafale Forum and India will play an important role in this forum.

According to a report in the Economic Times, while India is a major strategic partner of France in South Asia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a major partner of France in West Asia. There has also been a big change in the partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates in the last few years. The strategic partnership of both the countries has taken these relations to a new height.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted after the meeting in New York that ‘A productive first trilateral ministerial meeting of India-UAE-France. Active exchange of views between strategic partners and UNSC members.

India-UAE-France have a very comfortable relationship with each other and there are many areas where they can potentially work in a more coordinated manner. In July, India-UAE-France held their first trilateral meeting at the official level to explore possible cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, including maritime security, blue economy, regional connectivity, food and energy security. Along with this, possible areas of cooperation were discussed in this meeting on many issues including innovation, startup, flexibility in supply chain, increasing cultural cooperation. The three countries also discussed the next steps to be taken to advance trilateral cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
