Geneva, India on Thursday sternly told Pakistan that the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh was and will always be an integral and inseparable part of it. At the same time, India said that after the constitutional changes in 2019, the people of the region are now able to realize their full potential like other parts of the country. Addressing the 41st session of the Universal Timely Review (UPR) working group at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) from November 7-18, India’s Solicitor General Tushar Mehta slammed Pakistan for raising the Kashmir rage on stage.

Tushar Mehta said in the UNHRC, ‘The entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh was and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India’. He said that after the constitutional changes and reorganization of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the people of the region are now able to realize their full potential like other parts of the country.

Pakistani representative raised the issue of Kashmir

Tushar Mehta’s reaction comes after the representative of Pakistan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during his remarks in the review process. The Pakistani representative made 6 recommendations including reversing the steps taken since August 2019 and access to independent observers in the region. Mehta, who is leading the Indian delegation to the UPR, said, “Despite the continuing threat of cross-border terrorism, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly since August 2019.” Let us tell you that India on 5 August 2019 revoked Article 370 of the Constitution and revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two union territories.

They said that India The government has taken several steps for the all-round development of Jammu and Kashmir, including restoration of democracy at the grassroots level, good governance, unprecedented development of infrastructure, tourism and trade. He said more than 16 million tourists have arrived in Jammu and Kashmir this year, which is the “highest ever”. The expansion of more than 800 people-friendly and progressive central laws in the region has ensured better opportunities for all the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. These central laws include affirmative action for weaker sections, the right to free and compulsory education, non-discriminatory laws, protection against domestic violence and empowerment of women, criminalization of same-sex relationships and rights to transgender people.
