He said on Thursday that he was ready to talk to Putin for the first time since the invasion of Ukraine if the Russian leader really wanted to end the war. Biden has issued a joint statement on Ukraine with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House.

According to the news agency AFP, the President of France is on his US tour these days. It is worth noting that ever since Russia attacked Ukraine, Biden has been opposing talks with Putin. This is the first time he has talked about talks with the Russian leader. In the press conference with Macron, Biden further said that he has no immediate plans to contact Putin, but he is leaving this possibility open.

Biden further said in his statement that ‘I am ready to talk with Putin, if he is really interested in deciding to find a way to end the war. But he has not done so yet. However, Biden said that he would do such a thing only after consulting with his NATO allies. Along with this, he said that he would not do anything that would harm the interests of Ukraine.

At the same time, both Biden and Macron have spoken of giving long-term support to Ukraine. Biden said that ‘there is only one way to end this war, that is for Putin to get out of Ukraine’.
