American plane RC-135 had to change its course to avoid collision

washington, The incident of American and Chinese fighter jets coming face to face in the South China Sea has increased the tension between the two countries once again. A Chinese fighter jet flew dangerously within 20 feet (six meters) of a US Air Force surveillance plane over the South China Sea, news agency AFP quoted the US military as saying on Thursday. In a December 21 incident, a Chinese Navy J-11 fighter pilot performed an unsafe takeoff in front of a US Air Force RC-135 aircraft, the US Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement.

The statement further said that the Chinese pilot flew in front of and within 20 feet of the American plane’s nose, forcing the RC-135 to change course to avoid a collision. The US command said the RC-135 was legally operating a routine flight in international airspace over the South China Sea. This incident happened when China sent a group of warplanes over the sea towards Taiwan as a show of strength.

At the same time, the People’s Liberation Army said that it had organized a strike drill on Sunday in response to the ongoing alliance between the United States and Taiwan. There have been more than 1,700 such incursions into Taiwan’s airspace by China so far this year, compared to 969 in 2021, according to an AFP database.
