New York. Tech giant Google is laying off 12,000 of its employees. After this, a software engineer named Jeremy Joslin, working in Google since 2003, was fired. The company gave this news to him through email.

In a tweet, Joslin wrote, ‘It is hard for me to believe that after working for 20 years at Google, I suddenly came to know about my last day through an email. What an insult I wish I could meet everyone and say goodbye to them. In a LinkedIn post, Joslin said, ‘I never thought this would happen.’

Significantly, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai had announced on January 20 that the technology company Google would lay off 12,000 employees worldwide. Earlier, other giant technology companies – Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon – have also laid off employees amid the global economic slowdown.

In an email sent to employees, Indian-origin CEO Pichai said, ‘I am sharing a difficult news with you. We have decided to reduce about 12,000 posts in the company. Pichai said that the decision to lay off employees at Google was made after a rigorous review of operations. He said that jobs are being reduced across Alphabet, product areas, operations, at various levels and sectors.

Pichai said that the company had made appointments during a period of significant growth in the last two years, but economically the circumstances then were different from today. The technology company had expanded rapidly during the Corona epidemic.
