Washington. US President Joe Biden has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a state visit this summer. News agency PTI gave this information. The invitation of the US President has been accepted in principle and the officials of both the sides are now working on convenient dates through mutual consultations. According to PTI sources, however, this program is still in the initial stage.
Given that India is hosting a number of G-20 related events this year, including a summit in September that will be attended by Biden among others… it is reliably learned that both sides Officials of the US are looking for suitable dates in the months of June and July as the sessions of the US House of Representatives and Senate will not be going on at that time, as well as PM Modi does not have pre-scheduled domestic or international programs.
A state visit requires at least a few days, which includes, among other things, an address to a joint session of the US Congress and a state dinner at the White House. Apart from the G-20, PM Modi has a full domestic and international schedule before he starts campaigning for the crucial state assembly elections later this year.
On condition of anonymity, the source, however, did not reveal when the invitation was given and who had given the personal invitation to the Prime Minister’s Office on behalf of Biden. Biden hosted French President Emmanuel Macron for his first state dinner last December. Meanwhile, a senior administration official told reporters that Biden believes a partnership between India and the US, the world’s leading economies, is essential to solving key global challenges.
