Amwashington. Twitter has removed the ‘Verified’ blue tick from the main profile of ‘The New York Times’. This has been done for not paying for Blue Tick. To this, The New York Times said that it will not pay for a verified business account and will subscribe to Blue Tick only for those journalists who find it necessary for their reporting needs. On removing the blue tick, Elon Musk tweeted- ‘@NYTimes The real tragedy of the New York Times is that their propaganda is not interesting.’

Twitter owner Musk had set a Saturday deadline for users who received the ‘blue tick’ to pay to keep the service going. Under this, the ‘blue tick’ will be removed in case of non-payment for the service. The New York Times said on Thursday that it would not pay Twitter to verify its institutional accounts.

In fact, on Sunday, the media institute’s Twitter page showed that it no longer has any kind of verification badge and that the blue tick has been removed and not replaced with a gold tick. Musk had acquired the ownership rights to the microblogging platform last year and preferred to open the ‘blue checkmark’ indicating an authentic account to paying customers. The site had announced that it would start turning off blue checkmarks on April 1 for non-payment.

The New York Times said it will not pay for a verified business account and will only offer Blue Tick subscriptions to journalists who find it necessary for their reporting needs. As of Sunday, the organization’s main account with nearly 55 million followers had lost its gold checkmark, though the tick has been retained for affiliated accounts.

To retain Gold Ticks following the rollout of the Twitter Blue Tick membership service, these groups will be required to pay a monthly fee of $1,000 in the United States, and $50 for each additional affiliated account.

Meanwhile, several media groups and celebrities who have announced not to pay for Twitter Blue, including basketball star LeBron James, have retained blue or gold checkmarks on their accounts.
