It is reported that this migrant center is operated by the National Migration Institute in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
Fearing deportation, the migrants staged their protest on Monday night, during which the fire allegedly took place, according to local officials.
The institute says that 68 men were living in the migrant center at that time.
According to news media, most of the victims are believed to be citizens of Venezuela, Guatemala and other Central American countries.
Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador told a press conference, quoting local sources, that the migrants set their mattresses on fire, thinking that they would be expelled.
