Washington. A shocking case has come to light in America’s Phoenix. Here a high school student allegedly arrived with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in a bag and ammunition in a lunch box. After this, when the teacher in the school came to know about this, he informed the police. The accused student was arrested.
According to a CNN report, Phoenix police officers said they received a call just before 1 p.m. from Bosom High School in Maryvale that a student had brought an automatic rifle and ammunition to the school. “The school was immediately placed on lockdown as soon as school officials were informed of a possible gun on campus,” said Donna Rossi, director of communications for the Phoenix Police. A spokesperson for the school district said the lockdown lasted for an hour.
“We appreciate the people who originally alerted adults on campus to the possibility of a weapon being on school grounds and who immediately called police,” Phoenix police said in a statement. Police said that there is a 15-year-old boy, whose identity cannot be disclosed because he is a minor. He remained in police custody till Saturday. He has been charged by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office with two felony counts of possession of a rifle and one count of interference or disruption to an educational institution.
Authorities did not say how the boy obtained the gun. The officials did not even tell what was the student’s motive behind bringing the gun to the school. AR-15-style rifles have been identified as the weapons used in several recent mass shootings in the US, including a mass shooting at a Texas mall earlier this month. An AR-15-style rifle is semi-automatic, firing a single shot at the pull of the trigger and automatically reloading for another shot.
