Thiruvananthapuram: Scientists at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center have discovered that cancer cells that come into contact with healthy brain cells become hyperactive, leading to rapid cognitive loss in patients. Sometimes he even dies. This study could make a big difference in the treatment of cancerous brain tumors.

The team, led by Indian scientist Sarita Krishna, also discovered that the drug, used to treat brain disorders, is also effective in reducing the hyperactivity of tumor cells and inhibiting their growth. This study has been published in the latest issue of the science journal ‘Nature’.

Scientists have discovered that the communication between healthy brain cells and cancerous cells can be changed to prevent or reduce the growth of tumors. The study says that these results are more beneficial for patients suffering from glioblastoma. Which is considered the deadliest type of brain cancer in adults.

Krishna, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, told PTI that these unexpected results show that deadly cancer cells can cause changes in the structure of tissues around the brain that make them hyperactive. This causes cognitive damage to the patient and also reduces his life span. Scientists said that this discovery can be helpful in finding an effective method of treatment for a very deadly disease like glioblastoma.
