PM Modi will address the joint session of the US Congress on 22 June. Top leaders of the US Congress had announced on Friday that PM Modi would share his vision of India’s future and speak on the global challenges facing both the countries. President Joe Biden will host Prime Minister Modi on June 22 for an official state visit to the US, which will also include a state dinner.

In a statement, the leaders of the US Congress had said, ‘On behalf of the bipartisan leadership of the US House of Representatives and the US Senate, it is our honor to invite you (Prime Minister Modi) to address a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, June 22. Is.’ This will be the second time after June 2016 that PM Modi will address a joint meeting of the US Congress. Rajiv Gandhi was the first Indian Prime Minister to address a joint session of the US Congress on 13 June 1985. The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the joint session on 19 July 2005, Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 14 September 2000, PV Narasimha Rao on 18 May 1994.

Globally, former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (1941, 1943 and 1952) and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (1996, 2011 and 2015) addressed the Congress thrice each. Former South African President Nelson Mandela also addressed the US Parliament twice.
