Washington. The US has said that the upcoming state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi US Visit) is bringing to the fore the growing importance of India in the affairs of the world and the deepening ties between the two countries. Senior US diplomat and US-India Business Council (USIBC) president Atul Keshap asserted that PM Modi’s visit to the US is ‘really an important thing’ as it will be only the third state visit by a leader from India to the US. The last two state visits from India included President S. Radhakrishnan in June 1963 and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in November 2009.

Atul Keshap said that this state visit of PM Modi to America is ‘a symbol of friendship and trust between the people of America and India’. PM Modi has been invited by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for an official state visit, which will also include a state dinner on 22 June. Preparations for the historic visit are expected to pick up pace this week when US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan travels to New Delhi for the second round of ICET talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.

Before PM Modi’s visit, Indian Ambassador to America Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that ‘we are a week away from Prime Minister Modi’s historic state visit to America at the invitation of President Biden. There is a lot of enthusiasm on both sides. My PM is only the third Indian leader in our independent history to have been given this honour. He will become the only Indian leader to address the US Congress twice.

While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the Biden administration “views the relationship between the world’s oldest and largest democracies as a partnership in a shared commitment to address regional and global challenges”. Blinken said trade between the two countries reached a record level of $191 billion last year, making the US India’s largest trading partner. American companies have now invested at least $54 billion in India. In the US, Indian companies have invested over $40 billion in IT, pharmaceuticals and more. Which has created 425,000 jobs from California to Georgia.
