Saba Korosi, president of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, said in a tweet on Thursday, “I am excited to participate in the UN’s 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the North Lawn of the UN Headquarters next week.”

The tweet is accompanied by a picture of Korosi with PM Modi. The first International Yoga Day was celebrated in 2015. It has since been marked with numerous sessions and events at the United Nations, Times Square and iconic locations around the world highlighting the benefits and universal appeal of yoga.

The United Nations underlined that yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word yoga is derived from Sanskrit and means to join or unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Today it is popular all over the world in various forms and its popularity is increasing day by day. The UNGA resolution for the establishment of the International Day of Yoga was drafted by India and supported by a record 175 member states.

This proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Modi in his address during the inauguration of the 69th session of the General Assembly, in which he said, ‘Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition. Yoga signifies the unity of mind and body, thought and action…a holistic approach (which) is valuable to our health and well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; It is a way of finding a sense of oneness with oneself, the world and nature.’

In a tweet, Michelin-starred chef, author, filmmaker and entrepreneur Vikas Khanna welcomed PM Modi, saying, “He leaves for an official state visit from New York to Washington DC on June 21.” Will be there and on June 22, he will also host PM Modi (PM Modi Official State Visit) at the state dinner.

Vikas Khanna said, ‘As an Indian living in America for the last almost 25 years, I am really honored by Prime Minister Modi’s visit to America. He has been a bridge between the two largest democracies of the world. Khanna said in a video message accompanying his tweet that he has given us opportunities, he has given us a voice and has also given us the pride of representing our country in America.

Khanna said that he is really looking forward to the visit and is also motivated to present India in its highest glory before the world. Prime Minister Modi is visiting America from June 21-24 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. He will host Modi for a state dinner on 22 June. This visit also includes addressing the joint session of the Congress on 22 June. Modi will address an invite-only gathering of diaspora leaders from across the country on June 23 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington.
