Washington/Houston: There is a lot of enthusiasm among Indian-Americans regarding the state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A few days before PM Modi’s visit, hundreds of Indians gathered at prominent places in 20 cities of the country and took out marches to welcome him.

Prime Minister Modi will be visiting America from 21 to 24 June at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Biden and his wife will host a state dinner for Prime Minister Modi on 22 June. Prime Minister Modi will also address the joint session of the Congress on 22 June.

Prime Minister Modi will address the Indian-diaspora at a program organized on June 23 at the prestigious ‘Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center’ in Washington. Hundreds of Indian-Americans from Washington DC and its surrounding areas gathered near the ‘National Monument’ on Sunday to send a message of unity and said they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Prime Minister in the city.

Consul General of India in Houston Aseem Mahajan said, “The Indian American community as well as major business stakeholders from various industries such as energy, space, health, education and IT are really excited and optimistic about the historic visit of Prime Minister Modi.” Mahajan said, “We are receiving a large number of messages every day from elected officials, leading business houses and other Indian-American organizations from all over the country, which are being shared on social media, welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Several thousand Indian-Americans are expected to attend a ceremony to welcome Modi on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday, where President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will welcome him.

A large number of Indian-Americans are still looking for tickets to hear Modi’s address to a joint session of the US Congress. At the same time, MPs are having a hard time deciding to whom they should give one of their tickets to listen to the Prime Minister’s speech from the visitor’s gallery. The list of invited guests has not yet been released for the state dinner to be held on the lawn of the White House, the official residence and office of the US President. The First Lady’s office has not released any information regarding the state dinner. However, it is being speculated that around 400 people will attend the banquet organized in honor of the Prime Minister.
