India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj stressed that the decision to move forward intergovernmental negotiations should not be reduced to a mere thoughtless technical exercise. He said, “We see the decision to postpone the talks on technical grounds as yet another vain attempt to breathe life into a process that has shown no signs of vitality or progress in the last four decades.”

Kamboj clarified that India became part of the consensus to adopt the draft resolution only in recognition of the personal efforts of the President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Kasaba Korosi. He said it is now clear that intergovernmental negotiations could drag on for another 75 years without any real reform in the current structure and methods of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Kamboj said, “India as a responsible and constructive member of the United Nations will certainly continue to engage in this process along with its reformist partners. He will continue to work towards document-based meaningful dialogue instead of repetitive speeches.

“However, for those of us who truly want to deliver on our leaders’ commitment to an early and comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council, it is important to look beyond intergovernmental negotiations to create a more secure UN Security Council in the future,” he said. seen as the only viable path to establishing a world that better reflects today’s world.”

Referring to the decision to move the talks forward, Kamboj said that in view of the formal conclusions drawn from this process every year at the UN General Assembly, it should also include and reflect the progress made in consultations among member states throughout the year. Needed.

He said that India is encouraged by the efforts of the UN President to accept a small part of this demand in view of the webcasting of the process and the introduction of digital preservation.
