New Delhi: Khalistani groups will no longer be identified as protesters in the US, and recent attacks on Indian missions, including the latest case of Khalistani supporters setting fire to the Indian consulate in San Francisco, are now criminalised. The FBI is reportedly planning to crack down on such groups as per criminal laws and has names of groups and individuals who could be targeted. In the past, the activities of such pro-Khalistan groups were taken as freedom of expression in America.

An official said that Indian government and intelligence agencies are in touch with the US government and FBI counterparts and in India also we are going to register a case regarding the attack and it will be investigated by a federal agency.

In fact, the attack on the Indian mission on Tuesday is the second such violent incident within a month, which has been strongly condemned by the US government and has been classified as a crime. Khalistani supporters posted a video on Twitter on 2 July, showing incidents of arson at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. ‘Violence begets violence’ is written at the bottom of the video, along with news articles related to the death of Canada-based Khalistani Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
