The boy’s mother showed courage by sharing this heartbreaking news on Facebook. He said that ‘Woodrow Turner Bundy fought this dangerous infection for 7 consecutive days. While according to the records so far, the longest period of survival of any person is 3 days.

The boy’s mother said that ‘I knew that I have the strongest son in the world.’ She further said that ‘He is my hero and I will always be grateful to God for giving me the best child on earth and I am grateful to know that one day I will meet that boy in heaven.’ The boy began showing flu-like symptoms last week, according to a social media post by friends of the Bundy family. His parents initially felt that something was wrong. After this, the child’s mother reached the hospital with her son. Where the doctors first understood that he had meningitis.

Later the doctors found out that the boy had an infection with a deadly amoeba that eats the brain. Which created great concern in America earlier this year. Due to this, in February 2023, a 50-year-old man also lost his life in America. Two days before the child’s death, his mother had claimed in a Facebook post that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had denied any treatment to the two-year-old. Because there was no hope of his survival. The health agency has not responded to his allegations.

What is the brain-eating amoeba Naegleria fowleri?
According to the CDC, Naegleria fowleri is a type of amoeba (single-celled living organism) that is found in warm freshwater habitats such as lakes, rivers, and hot springs. When water containing amoeba passes through the nose, it can infect the brain. That’s why it is also called brain-eating amoeba. It is a rare disease, but it is almost always fatal. The thing to note is that people do not get infected by drinking contaminated water, if it does not go above the nose. Symptoms of the disease appear one to 12 days after exposure to water containing Naegleria. According to the CDC, people die one to 18 days after symptoms appear. Its symptoms include severe headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, stiff neck, seizures, hallucinations, and the patient slipping into a coma.
