Digital Desk, Brussels. The European Union Council has issued sanctions against 11 individuals and 4 entities over their role in the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran.
The death of the 22-year-old Iranian woman made international headlines this month and triggered social unrest and fierce protests across Iran that left several people dead, Xinhua news agency reported.
European Union sanctions were issued on Monday against those believed to be responsible for Amini’s death, including Iran’s morality police and two of its key figures, Mohammad Rostami and Haj Ahmad Mirzai. The European Union has designated the Iranian Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) and several of its local chiefs and listed Issa Jarepour, Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology.
The measures include a travel ban and an asset freeze. In addition, EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds to listed individuals and entities. The list now includes 97 individuals and eight entities, the European Union Council said in a statement following a meeting of member states’ foreign affairs ministers.
