washington, Fearing deportation after her father’s job in America (Tech Layoffs), an Indian-American student has left her home. According to a news agency PTI, an Indian-American schoolgirl has been missing for more than three weeks in the US state of Arkansas. Police suspect that she may have fled the US for fear of being deported after her father lost his job. The news agency quoted the Conway Police Department (CPD) as saying that 14-year-old Tanvi Marupalli of Conway, Arkansas, was last seen in her neighborhood on January 17, when she left for school by bus.

Local media reported that police believe that one of the possible reasons for his escape was his family’s fear of being deported. Tanvi’s parents believe that their daughter ran away because of the family’s immigration status. The relatives said that even though they have been working in the US for many years in the hope of gaining citizenship, the country’s immigration system has put their hopes on hold, reports katv.com. Tanvi’s father Pawan Roy Marupalli, who works in a tech company, also feared losing his job amid the ongoing layoffs in the technology sector.

However, he has informed the CPD that he is no longer in danger of losing his job and that leaving the country is not a concern at this time. According to the report, his mother Sridevi Edara also lost her job. Sridevi had to return to India alone and apply for a visa again as Pawan’s dependent. It took a year for Sridevi to come back with her family. According to The Washington Post, nearly 200,000 IT workers have been laid off since November last year, including record numbers at companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon. At present, the police is still looking for Tanvi and a reward will also be given to the person who gives the address. Tanvi’s family is offering a US$5,000 reward in hopes of bringing her home.
