Ruchira Kamboj: India’s Permanent Representative Ruchira Kamboj, who raised Pakistan’s cot in the United Nations, has been elected as the President of the 62nd session of the Social Development Commission of the United Nations. Kamboj was elected chair of the first meeting of the 62nd session of the United Nations Commission on Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York this week. Along with this, John Ivanovski from North Macedonia, Carla Maria Carlson from Dominican Republic and Thomas Lamar from Luxembourg were elected as Vice Presidents of the 62nd session. Earlier, the Social Development Commission had sent four draft proposals for approval to the United Nations Economic and Social Council on the last day of its 61st session. The draft proposals, which are to be adopted unanimously, include creating full employment to remove inequalities and emphasizing on restoration of normalcy after the Kovid-19 pandemic. During the last meeting of the 62nd session of the Commission, the “Future Organization and Method of Functioning of the Commission for Social Development” was approved.
