Russia claims it did not provide any security guarantees for Biden’s visit

Moscow/Washington: Before the completion of one year of the Russia-Ukraine war, US President Joe Biden made an unannounced visit to Ukraine on Monday. This was US President Biden’s first visit since the invasion of Ukraine. Now news is coming that Russia’s Federal Security Service was informed about Biden’s visit. Alexander Bortnikov, director of the Russian intelligence agency, said on Tuesday that he was not given any security guarantees during Biden’s visit.

According to PTI, Federal Security Service (FSB) director Bortnikov said in an interview with Shot Telegram channel, ‘In fact, the United States informed Russia through diplomatic channels about Biden’s visit to Kiev. But we did not give any guarantee of their safety. A US official said that Russia was informed about the visit hours before President Biden’s departure. Bortnikov said that the Russian and US special services continue to cooperate, especially in the fight against international terrorism. The official Tass news agency quoted Bortnikov as saying, ‘This cooperation is ongoing. Naturally, it is not at the level it used to be, so it benefits nobody. We are all interested in maintaining relations.

Biden’s highly secretive visit came after 12 months of Kiev struggle. Biden has also announced an aid package after meeting Zelensky. He announced half a billion dollars in aid, saying that the package also included more military equipment, including artillery ammunition and howitzers. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden said, ‘A year later, Kiev stands. Democracy stands. Americans stand with you and the world stands with you.

The United States and other Western countries are sending arms and ammunition to Ukraine in hopes of changing the course of the war. According to a White House statement, the purpose of Biden’s appearance in Kiev was to reaffirm his “unwavering commitment to the democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.
