They were taking the lift to the reception on the 16th floor of the hotel when the lift suddenly stopped between floors, trapping the couple, Victoria’s sister and three other guests inside.
Panav told local television channel WJZY, “When it happened for the first time, I thought it stopped for a few seconds and it would start again. Then we saw that the door was slightly open. In an interview with CNN, he elaborated that he got up maybe five feet, and then all of a sudden the elevator stopped and the doors got stuck. Then the doors began to open, so that they could see the concrete wall in front of them. Meanwhile, information about getting stuck in the lift was given to the Fire Brigade team.
According to reports, firefighters used a winch to pull the lift, which was stuck between the first and second floors of the hotel. The guests were then strapped into harnesses and escorted out to safety. After the rescue operation, the two posed for a picture with the rescue team in traditional Indian wedding attire, which the department later shared on its social media.
