A statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed on a university campus in Canada’s British Columbia province was vandalised. Earlier, Khalistani supporters had targeted a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Consulate General of India in Vancouver said that the statue installed at the Peace Square of the Burnaby campus at Simon Fraser University has been vandalised.

According to media reports, the consulate tweeted, “We strongly condemn this crime of damaging the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the pioneer of peace.” The embassy issued a statement saying that the Canadian authorities have been requested to investigate the matter immediately and punish the culprits severely. On March 23, Khalistani supporters spray-painted a statue of Mahatma Gandhi near City Hall in Hamilton city of Ontario province, Canada.

At the same time, in the month of July last year, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed outside a Lord Vishnu temple in Richmond Hill, Canada was damaged. This incident was strongly condemned by the Consulate General of India located in Toronto. Please tell that these days Khalistani supporters are continuously carrying out anti-India activities. On February 13, a Ram temple in Mississauga was targeted by Khalistani extremists. The Indian Embassy had reacted strongly to this too.
