When she was 5 years old, her hair started growing rapidly and her father was embarrassed by her appearance. He got the daughter admitted in the circus where she started earning 81 thousand rupees per month. For 55 years, she was known as the Bearded Lady. Talking to ABC News, he said that he had to do this only to feed the family. When she returned home from the circus, her father would forcefully ask her to shave, so that she could fit in with the common people. Fed up with this life of hers, she stopped shaving in 1990 and started growing her beard considering it a part of her body. She said that without a beard, she does not consider herself a real person, she becomes someone else.
