America: Petition of Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana rejected, decision to extradite India expected in 30 days

Washington. The US court, while rejecting a petition (presented States Conference Motion) of Tahawwur Rana, accused of 2008 Mumbai Terrorist Attack, said that he should be extradited to India in the next 30 days. A decision can come if done. Tahawwur is a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, the court can give a verdict on the request of the US government to extradite him to India. The last hearing in this matter was held in June 2021. Tahawwur Rana is wanted for his alleged role in the Mumbai terror attack and India has requested his extradition.

According to reports, terrorist David Coleman Headley testified about Tahawwur Rana after turning approver. Headley is serving a 35-year prison sentence in the US for his role in the attack. He was related to the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and knew Tahawwur Rana for a long time. Tahawwur Rana was re-arrested in Los Angeles on June 10, 2020, in the Mumbai terror attack case by the US on India’s request. Based on the evidence presented by India, Rana was found guilty of defrauding the Government of India by making and submitting forged documents.

Status conference request rejected, decision expected to be issued in 30 days
His counsel suggested that the status conference be held on 25 April but the court rejected the application in an order on 17 April. The court’s order states, ‘The request made in the petition that the court should keep the concerned parties informed about the latest status of the matter is approved. The parties concerned are advised that the court is expected to issue a decision on the matter in 30 days. The same order states, ‘The court rejects the request for status conference as the court is of the opinion that this proceeding is unnecessary and will not help the court in the disposal of this matter.’
