Number of Indian students going to study in America increased in 2022, students going from China decreased: Report

New Delhi: Every year the number of students going to America from India keeps on increasing. According to a new report, in 2022, India will send more students to the United States than the previous year, while China will send fewer. Comparing the calendar year 2020 to 2021, China has sent fewer students (-24,796) to the US than India, while India has sent more students, around 64,300. This is what the US Immigration and Custom Enforcement has said in its annual report.

According to a PTI report, the number of students from India has made Asia the most popular origin continent. According to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), the number of international students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade is set to grow 7.8 percent from 2021 to 2022 (3,887). The report states that all four regions of the United States saw a record increase in the number of international students from 2021 to 2022. This increase was from 8 to 11 percent. Compared to 115,651 in the calendar year 2021, an increase of 1.4 percent. The report states that in 2022, California will host 225,173 international students. This US state has the largest percentage (16.5 percent) of international students.

From calendar year 2021 to calendar year 2022, there was a record increase of 68,678 in the total number of active F-1 and M-1 students coming from Asia. 70 percent of all international students in the United States call Asia home. Other Asian countries sending fewer students this year than last year include Saudi Arabia (-4,115), Kuwait (-658) and Malaysia (-403).
