McCarthy’s invitation also referred to the Prime Minister’s final address to the US Congress, saying it ‘left a lasting impression’ and greatly strengthened the friendly relations between India and the US. Although PM Modi has visited the US several times earlier in his tenure, this will be his first ‘state visit’ since assuming office in 2014. This will be the fourth meeting between Biden and Modi in a month. A state dinner is also included in this visit on 22 June. This is the second time that PM Modi will address the joint session of the US Parliament. PM Modi had earlier addressed a joint session of the US Parliament in 2016. It is known that former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and South African President Nelson Mandela are some of the world leaders who have been honored with this rare honor on two occasions.
