Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a state visit to America. Today is the second day of PM Modi’s visit. The eyes of the whole world are on the growing closeness between the two countries. On this tour, America has offered to give eight wheeled armored fighting vehicle “Striker” and M777 gun to India. Quoting officials from New Delhi and Washington, the Hindustan newspaper reported that the final decision on offering these two devices depends on the conditions imposed by the Biden administration.

Stryker was deployed to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban and there are reports that Biden is planning to send him to Ukraine as well. The report states that the US has also offered to upgrade 155 mm M777 howitzers with precision-guided long-range ammunition to counter artillery on India’s northern borders. India already has 145 M777 howitzers, of which 120 are made by Mahindra Defense Systems in association with BAE Systems.

The Indian Army is considering upgrading its arsenal with killer drones since taking arms from the US in 2020. India needs armed drones at a cost of over $3 billion to strengthen its surveillance network along the border with China as well as in the Indian Ocean region.

Since 2020, India and China have been locked in a military standoff at several points along the 3,488 km long border. Several reports have claimed that both sides have deployed around two lakh soldiers. India has significantly increased surveillance along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) using a fleet of unmanned drones. The inclusion of these drones will be an upgraded program in India’s surveillance program.
