A major rescue operation is underway to find the missing submarine and its five passengers that went on display to see the wreckage of the Titanic. Apart from the US and Canadian Navy, private companies are also engaged in the search. However, everyone is wondering as to how the contact of the ship was broken on the way to the wreckage of the Titanic ship. One of the world’s top Titanic experts, Tim Maltin, has suggested that it is possible that the submarine may be trapped in the wreckage of the historic ship.

Maltin told that the Titanic’s arch is in good condition and it is present on the sea floor. But the rear part of the ship is so badly damaged, as if someone had attacked it with a bomb. Maltin explained that “the stern is almost like a junkyard, where you find cables, pieces of cranes, pieces of torn metal, lots of things that you can stop the submersible on, but more importantly you have to Here drag nets are found which actually break up the fishing vessels.”

Maltin explained that ships or anything large eventually become trapped in the scattered wreckage of the Titanic, and they are called ghost nets, and it is possible that the submarine may have been caught in one of these ghost nets. Maltin also commented on the banging sounds being heard by rescue workers.

“There’s a lot of search and rescue material out there at the moment, there’s a lot of commercial shipping in that area as well, so I don’t put too much thought into the sounds of the explosion right now,” he said. With the ship only having about 20 hours of oxygen left and more ships arriving in the North Atlantic to aid in the search, Maltin worries whether rescuers will be able to reach the submarine at about 4,000 meters below sea level.
