New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the meeting of G-20 Tourism Ministers through virtual medium. During this, he said that at the time of hosting, we are going to organize more than 200 meetings at 100 different places in the country. We aim to preserve our cultural heritage and create world class infrastructure for the tourism sector. The PM said that I am happy that we are also recognizing the relevance of the tourism sector for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The PM also invited the G20 countries to observe the Lok Sabha elections to be held in India next year.

During this, the Prime Minister said, ‘We are working on 5 interrelated areas of Green Tourism, Digitization, Skill Development, Tourism MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and Destination Management. This shows our priority. We should make maximum use of technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) to promote innovation.

‘Terrorism divides, but tourism unites’
The PM further said that after developing the infrastructure in Varanasi, there has been a 10-fold increase in the number of tourists. Within a year of construction, 27 lakh tourists have reached to see the Statue of Unity. It was informed that the theme of G-20 hosted by India has been kept as Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. It can become the ideal of global tourism. PM said, ‘It is said that terrorism divides, but tourism unites. Tourism has the potential to connect people from all walks of life, thereby creating a better society.

The PM said, “There is a saying in ancient scriptures ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ which means guest is like God and this is also our approach towards tourism. Tourism in India is not just about sightseeing but it is a deep experience. I am happy to note that a G-20 tourism dashboard is being developed in partnership with UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organisation).


‘Festival of Democracy is coming in India’
Narendra Modi said that India is a country of festivals. There are festivals throughout the year. The ‘Sao Joao’ festival is coming soon in Goa, but there is one more festival that you must visit, the ‘Festival of Democracy’. Lok Sabha elections are to be held in India next year. One billion voters will celebrate this festival for more than a month. This testifies to his firm belief in democratic values.
