Washington: PM Modi is on US tour. During this, a member of the Indian community in America was seen wearing a jacket with pictures of PM Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora on his arrival in New York on Tuesday in the first leg of his first state visit to the US. Among them was Minesh C Patel, who was seen flaunting his jacket. Speaking to ANI, he said, ‘This jacket was made during Gujarat Day in 2015… We have 26 such (jackets) and four of them are here today.’
PM Modi, who is on a four-day visit to the US, was on Tuesday accorded a warm welcome by the Indian expatriate at Hotel Lotte, where he will be staying during his visit to New York. Slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ were resounding in the hotel and Indian expatriates expressed happiness on seeing the Prime Minister and waved Indian flags. There was a sense of excitement in the crowd, eager to catch a glimpse of PM Modi and interact with him during his visit. The Prime Minister also held a meeting with the Bohra community at the hotel.
Expressing his deep happiness on getting the opportunity to see and meet PM Modi, an Indian-origin man said, “I consider myself extremely fortunate to have met Prime Minister Modi here in the United States of America.” Meanwhile, another Indian said, “The aura around PM Modi is really remarkable. He welcomed us warmly with such calmness and politeness. We are very excited.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached John F Kennedy International Airport in New York and was given a grand welcome. Members of the overseas Indian community chant ‘Modi, Modi’ as they await the arrival of PM Modi in New York. PM Modi also interacted with the members of the overseas Indians and shook hands with them.

PM Modi will attend the Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters on 21 June. After this, PM Modi will go to Washington DC and on June 22, he will be formally welcomed at the White House. US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host a state dinner in the Prime Minister’s honor the same evening. The Prime Minister will also address a joint meeting of the US Congress on the same day. On June 23, a luncheon will be hosted jointly by US Vice President Kamala Harris and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for the Prime Minister. He will also meet members of the Indian diaspora.
