California: Bad days have come for Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Hussain Rana. The Biden administration has urged the California court to reject the habeas corpus writ filed by Hussain and reiterated that he should be sent to India. Tahawwur Hussain’s connection is with the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, that’s why India is demanding America to send him soon.

A US court had approved Rana’s extradition to India in May. Rana is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. Rana (62) had challenged his extradition by the Indian government while filing a habeas corpus petition through his lawyer. Opposing Rana’s plea, US lawyer Estrada said the petitioner was unable to show that India’s extradition request There is not enough evidence of probable cause. Rana’s lawyer opposed this under the Extradition Request Treaty. His lawyer had argued that Rana’s extradition was illegal.

Significantly, on June 10, 2020, India had filed a complaint seeking Rana’s temporary arrest for extradition. US President Joe Biden’s administration had supported and approved Rana’s extradition to India. Thereafter, he was arrested.
