Children most affected in the ongoing conflict in the world, UN expressed concern

Serious human rights violations include the recruitment and use of children by combatants, killing children, injuring them, sexual assault, kidnapping, and attacks on schools and hospitals. Omar Abdi, UNICEF deputy executive director, told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that 2022 is expected to see a record high of 27,000 serious human rights violations, up from 24,000 a year earlier. The 2022 cases are the highest number of confirmed cases since the start of the UN monitoring report in 2005. The number of “worrying” situations is also the highest, 26, during the conflict.

Abdi said the report came as serious conflict broke out in Sudan, where violent conflict has displaced more than one million children and the UN has been informed of hundreds of deaths and casualties. He also said that UNICEF fears that Palestinian children will be affected by the recent escalation of violence.

The UNICEF official said the government and the parties to the conflict were not meeting their commitments to protect children and that “meaningful and visible action” was needed. In the council’s annual report late last month, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres accused Russian security forces of violating the human rights of children during the conflict, killing boys and girls in Ukraine and attacking schools and hospitals. put on the list.

The UN chief, however, did not blacklist Israel for serious violations against 1,139 Palestinian children, welcoming the “identification of practical steps with UN-proposed measures to protect children”. This number also includes 54 murders.
