Salman Rushdie lost one eye, one hand stopped working

New York. Noted and controversial writer Salman Rushdie has lost his sight in one eye. Apart from this, he is able to use only one hand. His representative said some of his organs were affected after the August attack. Rushdie was attacked with a knife at a literary event in western New York City. Andrew Wylie, who represented major writers such as Sal Bello and Roberto Bolao, said Rushti was in critical condition.

Significantly, Rushdie was attacked when he was giving an interview to the Spanish newspaper El Pais. Wyllie said that Rushdie had three serious throat wounds. One hand has stopped working due to the cut of the nerves. Apart from this, there are 15 wounds on his chest and trunk. Wylie, however, did not comment that Rushdie, the 75-year-old author of the controversial book The Satanic Verses, has been in the hospital for more than two months.

Throat and torso blows
It is said that a 24-year-old boy attacked Salman Rushdie’s neck and torso when he was going to give a lecture at the Chateauqua Institute. There was a ruckus after the attack. Rushdie, who was seriously injured in the attack, was immediately taken to the hospital. The veins in his hands were cut, the liver was injured and his eyesight was lost.

Fatwa was issued 33 years ago
Let us tell you, 33 years before this attack on Rushdie, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against him regarding his ‘The Satanic Verses’. He had talked about beheading him. The book was seen as blasphemy. Rushdie was born in India to a Muslim-Kashmiri family. Since the fatwa was on him, he had to spend 9 years under the protection of the British police.

Twitter took action
However, Iran’s reformist President Mohammad Khatami distanced himself from this fatwa in 1990. But, a fatwa worth crores of rupees remained on Rushdie, no one removed it. Meanwhile, in the year 2019, Khomeini’s successor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the fatwa is continuing on Rushti. After this Twitter closed his account.
