The discussion took place after Russia’s exit from the Black Sea Grain Deal, also known as the United Nations Grain Agreement. In fact, on Monday, Russia canceled the Black Sea grain deal, which has affected the flow of grain from Ukraine to regions of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Black Sea Grain Agreement
In order to deal with the ever-increasing food crisis in the world, the United Nations and Turkey mediated and persuaded Russia to sign the Black Sea Grain Agreement. This was followed by an agreement in July 2022, under which Russia allowed Ukraine to pass through three ports of Chornomorsk, Pivedni and Odessa carrying food grains after inspection. A safe passage of 310 nautical miles long and 3 nautical miles wide was prepared in the Black Sea. Till now the term of this agreement has been extended four times. It was last extended for 60 days on May 17, which expired on July 17. Now Russia has decided to cancel it.
Russia’s decision can create food crisis
The move has raised concerns about hunger and rising food prices in many areas. The Black Sea grain deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey has played a key role in facilitating food transport from Ukraine to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Now the global food crisis has deepened due to its suspension. On the UN grain accord, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said that India is deeply concerned and concerned about the recent developments, which have hurt the larger cause of peace and stability. “I would like to add here that India supports the efforts of the UN Secretary-General in continuing the Black Sea grain deal, and looks forward to an early resolution of the current impasse,” she said.
Negotiation is the only solution to any dispute
Ruchira Kamboj said, “Dialogue can be the only way to deal with all the differences and disputes, it may seem difficult now, we have to keep all the doors of diplomacy open to pave the way for peace.” On the current state of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Indian envoy told the UNGA that it is also unfortunate that as the Ukrainian conflict escalates, it has caused substantial damage to the entire southern world. “It is therefore important that the voice of the Southern world is heard and their legitimate concerns are addressed appropriately,” he stressed.
