Washington: The troubles of former US President Donald Trump are not reducing. Trump’s trial in the classified documents case is scheduled to begin on May 20 next year. A federal judge is overseeing the case. The New York Times reported that a federal judge on Friday set the date for May. This case is related to the allegation of illegal possession of dozens of confidential documents on the former President.
The New York Times reported that Judge Eileen M. Cannon said the trial was to be held at her home court in Fort Pierce, Florida, a coastal city about two and a half hours north of Miami. Judge Cannon has also drawn up a calendar of hearings for this year and next, including case related hearings.
The scheduling order came after a contentious hearing in federal court in Fort Pierce on Tuesday, where Trump’s attorneys sparred over a trial date. The timing of the proceedings is more important in this case than in most criminal cases because Trump is now the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination and his legal obligation to be in court will coincide with his campaign schedule.

Setting the schedule for Trump’s trial was the first significant decision in the case for Judge Cannon. The special thing is that Trump had appointed him as a judge. Trump is accused of illegally keeping 31 documents containing sensitive national security information. He was also accused of conspiring with a personal associate, Walt Nauta, to hinder the government’s repeated efforts to retrieve the documents.
