US hammers Chinese tech companies, bans telecom equipment of 5 firms including Huawei-ZTE

Washington: America has hit a big hammer on China’s famous and giant tech companies, because America has banned Chinese telecommunication equipment citing ‘national security’. The US has banned the sale of communication equipment made by five Chinese companies, including Chinese companies Huawei, ZTE. According to news agency Reuters, the Joe Biden administration has banned the approval of new telecommunications equipment from China’s Huawei Technologies and ZTE because they pose an ‘unacceptable risk’ to US national security.

The FCC i.e. the US Federal Communications Commission said on Friday, ‘Today we have adopted new rules prohibiting communications equipment considered to be an unacceptable risk to national security from being authorized for importation or sale in the United States. The rule bans the sale or import of equipment made by Chinese surveillance equipment maker Dahua Technology Co Ltd, video surveillance firm Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co Ltd and telecoms firm Hytera Communications Corp Pvt Ltd, apart from Huawei and ZTE.

This decision of America means that now these five companies can neither buy goods from China and sell them in America, nor will their products be approved for sale in America. America has hammered the giant tech companies of China at a time when its relations with China are deteriorating even more. The US fears that Beijing could use Chinese tech companies to spy on Americans.

FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement that these new rules are an important part of our ongoing work to protect the American people from national security threats related to telecommunications. However, Huawei refused to comment on this action of America. Not only this, JTE, Dahua, Hikvision and Hytera also refused to comment on this.

Indeed, in March 2021 the so-called ‘cover list’ (which lists both equipment and services) named five Chinese companies Huawei, ZTE, Hytera Communications Corp Hikvision and Dahua under a 2019 law aimed at protecting US communications networks. There was a threat to national security. This move has been supported by both Republicans and Democrats. The FCC was considering banning all device authorizations for all these companies from June 2021 onwards.
