America: Harvard students gathered in support of Chinese protesters, raised slogans against Jinping

Cambridge (Massachusetts). In the last several decades, along with Beijing, many other cities are witnessing the biggest demonstrations against the Communist government of China. People’s anger has flared up due to the strict restrictions of the Zero Kovid policy implemented for the prevention of coronavirus. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Now to support these Chinese protesters, dozens of people gathered at Harvard University on Tuesday and raised slogans against the Chinese government and Jinping. About 50 protesters sang songs in both Chinese and English and raised slogans in both languages.

Most of them were students of Ivy League schools. They chanted ‘We are not slaves, we are citizens!’, demanding Chinese President Xi Jinping to vacate the chair. and ‘We don’t want dictatorship, we want elections!’ Slogans like Many people gathered at the statue of John Harvard, named after the university’s founder, wore masks. This was not because of Kovid-19. Rather, they were worried that their families would face dire consequences if they were identified by the Chinese authorities. These students were apprehensive that their relatives in China may face harassment or their jobs may also be in danger.

Wen, a Chinese graduate student at Harvard who participated in the demonstration, said he did not want relatives at his home to be in trouble because of him. Significantly, due to the ‘zero-covid’ policy of the Chinese authorities, there have been demonstrations in at least eight cities of mainland China and in Hong Kong. These demonstrations are being called the biggest protest against the Chinese government since the 1989 student-led Tiananmen Square pro-democracy movement. To deal with this, the government has sent students of some universities home. Police have been deployed in Beijing and Shanghai to prevent more protests on Tuesday. Security forces detained unknown people and increased surveillance.
